The ADVENT of a miracle

With all this talk about a Tripface discography and their recent profile added to Myspace, I decided to dig up an old demo of sorts. Now I am sure that there is quite a bit of drama surrounding this band and while I do not want to stir up any ill feelings between members, I do feel that this demo deserves another listen.

Shortly after Tripface released the album "Some Part Sorrow" on Exit, their vocalist Scott was no longer in the band. (Whether he left or quit I am sure is a whole other story altogether) The three other Tripface members along with a recently added second guitarist went in search of a vocalist and found one in Tommy Corrigan (of Silent Majority/Blood Red)
The band dubbed themselves ADVENT, quickly recorded a 4 song demo, and after only a handful of shows, disbanded.

Picking up where Tripface had left off, Advent's material was every bit abrasive and metallic as Tripface. While the band did not have the "gang" vocal parts and anthem's that Tripface did, Advent's vocal approach was a bit more subtle and refined. You can see a natural progression from "Some Part Sorrow" to the Advent demo. The band was moving in a more mature direction adding in more melody than Tripface had ever attempted.

After posting the idea of the blog re-discovering this demo, their vocalist replied that this was the worst band he ever did. Others, myself included, beg to differ. In my eyes you are either a fan of Tommy' unique vocal style or you aren't. This demo certainly fits well amongst his catalog of underappreciated bands. Sorry Tommy!

Here is the demo:
Advent - Braille Novel
Advent - Dukes Neutral Corner
Advent - Prince Chicos St
Advent - Earplugs

Sorry, Tommy, indeed. This is fucking GREAT.

Did the demo have a title, and do you know what year it was released? I'm a nerd, sorry, ha, ha... If this is what Tripface sounded like then god damnit they better hurry up and release that discography! These bands are fucking crazy to think this stuff wasn't good! The second track on this thing is amazing...

Glad to see you back in action!

The demo was untitled and the only artwork featured was a sticker that said Advent on the case and a green insert with the track names, contact info, and member names. It was recorded in summer of 1998. The Tripface discography is being on released on State Of Mind sometime next year. Tripface was a bit more straight up hardcore than these guys were. Search myspace to find their profile and hear a track from their full length. Since this is a chapter (or more an extension of Tripface that wont be included) I do believe it deserves a second chance at being heard.

what was the tracklist to the skycamefalling demo? i still think you should put up more beltaine. i've been listening to those two tracks since the date they were posted. the new revolution 9 track you put up is great.

jeeez. i feel like this is becoming more a skycamefalling chat than about the music on here. The tracklisting for the skycamefalling demo was:
1. A Perfect Prayer
2. Of Adornment & Disgust
3. The Fall Of Cain's Countenance
4. Malachai's Whisper
As far as posting more Beltaine, well I do hope that some people would go out and buy the album. Its super cheap at a few outlets (under $2.00) and you get the artwork and the lyrics, which is a huge help since sometimes trying to figure out what James is saying is nearly impossible.

This always sound different when you are typing and not talking. I guess my last comment sounded a little snotty, but if you (or anyone else) ever have questions regarding skycamefalling you can always email me at christopher@onedaysavior.com. I would be happy to answer any of them. I guess the blog is something that I want to use for talking about the music featured here. Maybe that skycamefalling demo will make it up on here one day too, who knows?

yeah i thought you sounded a bit upset. but hey i respect skycamefalling to the fullest, and i have for the past three or four years, but i have already told you that sometime in the past.
i also respect this site a whole lot as well. aside from beltaine and revolution 9, bridgewater has also caught my attension. have you played with these bands or do you just enjoy listening to them? just curious where you are finding them.

I believe I had the pleasure of seeing Bridgewater at a show here on Long Island (but like I said I took the chance of buying their demo at Very) Other bands featured I have also just seen at shows and made a big impression on me, or happened to hear through a friend. I dont believe that SCF shared the stage with any of the bands featured thus far.

Having a strange affinity with Long Island hardcore-punk [I am from the UK] this demo is a great find.
I was wondering if you would know anything - or possibly have - any earlier Silent Majority material than the first two 7"s, i.e. demo songs? If so, it would be absolutely amazing to see/hear them hosted here. Actually, just more about 'long-lost' Long Island bands of the '90s in general would be great.
Keep it up [!].
Take care, Sami.

This demo was great, I was a huge fan of Tommies vocals and these guys were just talented musicians. This was the style they were going for, and it wasn't what I wanted to do musically at the time, but it still floored me when I heard it (Pete played it for me, we lived together at college). These are some amazing songs and Tommy really needs to stop putting this project down.

The Tripface Discog is comming out, I have had a punch of tapes transferred over and I am trying to figure out what is going to make it. Hopefully this will be done soon.

Awesome Blogg, please add more... Motaba or 52x stuff would be so great to hear.
