Kid Brother Collective 1997-2003
When you're part of a touring band, it becomes your life. Spending months at a time in a cramped van with three other guys is par for the course. You can't help but become close with these people. It's one of the greatest, and worst parts of playing music. I was fortunate enough to spend my time on the road with people who shared the same enthusiasm, work ethic and goals that I had. There were a lot of arguments, and a lot of stressful situations, but that rarely got in the way of having fun at every show.
The songs here represent two eras of the band. Tracks one through three were recorded in late Two Thousand, during the Highway Miles sessions. This was just before Eric Allen left the band. The songs just didn't fit into the scheme of that record, and had a completely different quality to them, so they were shelved for a later release. Tracks four through seven were recorded in late Two Thousand Two, with Nate Humfleet on drums. We were never happy with two of the tracks, but then again, we were never completely satisfied during any of our studio sessions. They Don't Close Florida was originally scrapped from the record, mainly to give it more attention later and put it on the next full length. Robot Insurance just didn't turn out right. I was extremely sick when the vocals were tracked, and the feel was just never there on everything else. This being our last official release, we decided to include everything from both sessions and chronicle every song we could. Our announcement to split up came during the final stages of the record, and so production was originally halted. What you see now is the end result of that release, one that we thought might never find an audience. The final months of the band saw Mark Michalik on drums. Ironically, Mark was the most well adjusted of the bunch, and easily the best fit in his short stint. Over a year after our demise, we still find surprises in all our friends we made along the way. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did. Thanks to you all.
